Pau is situated on the plains just below the mountains in the far northeast part of Catalonia and Spain. On the peninsula and national park of Cap de Creus  the Pyrenees steeps into the Mediterranean Sea. The plain below is an old wetland and today a national park with a rich bird life. The area has been inhabited since ancient times and there are several ancient ruins from 10000 BC and onwards. In Pau there are some bars and restaurants within walking distance of Paó Blau.

The coasts of Costa Brava offers both long sandy beaches and bold rock formations. You can practice a variety of mountain and beach activities such as mountain hiking, biking, sky diving and windsurfing. There are also several golf courses in the area.

In the mountains, there are both short and long hiking trails. Go straight from the house for an hour up to Creu Blanca, a memorial built 400 meters above sea level  in the 15th century . From Creu Blanca you will have a wonderful view over the countryside and the sea. Or start your trekking all the way to the Campostella di Santiago, one of the world’s most famous religious routes.

Pau is also in the middle of the so-called Dalí triangle. Visit the Dalí Museum in Figueres where Salvador Dalí also is buried in the theatre he bought and rebuilt to his own museum. You can also pay a visit to his summer house in Cadaques, furthest out on the Cap de Creus. Cadaques is reachable both by car across the mountains or by boat from Roses. The third Dalí Museum is located in Pubol, about 55 km from Pau.

In the area olives and grapes are cultivated. Several producers have their own shops where you can taste and buy their products. Some also have guided tours of the production.

Of course you have the possibility to visit Barcelona, go from Figueres with the fast train and you are in the city centre in less than an hour.

You reach France in half an hour by car going north. Visit the Modern Museum in Céret or have lunch in the beautiful village Colliure at French Mediterranean coast. Travel northwest towards the Pyrenees and within three hours you reach several ski resorts (open during wintertime) and another 30 minutes you reach Andorra.
